Cathedral built by Ivan the Terrible. Saint Sophia Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox cathedral, the oldest surviving stone building in the city of Vologda. It was constructed between 1568 and 1570 under personal supervision of Tsar Ivan the Terrible in the period when Vologda was the capital of the Oprichnina lands in Russia, and completed in 1587. The cathedral is located on the right bank of the Vologda River, just outside the former fortress known as the Vologda Kremlin.

The cathedral was designated by the Russian government as an architectural monument of federal significance (#3510063013).[1]

Historic monastery with church services. The Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery is a fortified Russian Orthodox monastery in the settlement of Priluki on the bank of the Vologda River near the city of Vologda. Its history goes back to the 14th-century missionary activities of St. Sergius of Radonezh and his disciples. Most surviving buildings date from the 16th and 17th centuries. Since 1993 Priluki has been administered as part of Vologda.[2]

Monastery. The Gorne-Uspensky Convent or simply Gorny Convent is a monastery in Vologda, Russia. It was active between 1590 and 1924. It is situated in the historic part of the town, named Upper Posad, in the area bounded by the Zavrazhskaya, Burmaginy and Mokhov streets. Several of its buildings are preserved or have been restored, while others are partially or completely in ruins. It comprises a complex of monuments that have been protected by the federal government.[3]

Museum. The Museum of Diplomatic Corps is a private historical museum located in Russian city Vologda. It is situated in a wooden manor that belonged to a noble Pavel Puzan-Puzyrevsky where, in 1918, the American Embassy was quartered. The exposition of the museum is devoted to little known events which took place in Vologda in February–July 1918, and is connected with a stay of 11 foreign embassies and diplomatic missions headed by the American Ambassador David Rowland Francis.

Museum was closed on 4 November 2012.[4]
