Lavish summer palace built in 1874. Peleș Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914. Its inauguration was held in 1883. It was constructed for King Carol I.[1]

The Sinaia Monastery, located in Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, was founded by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after the great Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai in Egypt. As of 2005, it is inhabited by 13 Christian Orthodox monks led by hegumen Macarie Boguș. It is part of the Bucharest archdiocese.[2]

Rock formation in Romania. The Sphinx is a natural rock formation in the Bucegi Natural Park which is in the Bucegi Mountains of Romania. It is located at an altitude of 2,216 metres within the Babele complex of rock formations.

The first photo of the Great Bucegi Sphinx was probably taken in about the year 1900. This photograph was taken from a front position, not from a lateral one, as it usually appears in modern pictures. It only acquired its nickname, referring to the Great Sphinx of Giza, in the year 1936. The image of the sphinx appears when the rock, having an 8 m height and a 12 m width, is observed from a certain angle. The megalith has its clearest outline on 21 November, at the time the sun goes down.[3]

The Sinaia Casino is located in "Dimitrie Ghica" park, Sinaia, Romania and was built at the initiative of King Carol I of Romania.

Construction began in 1912 and was finished a year later. The work was supervised by architect Petre Antonescu, who was also the author of the plans. The main shareholder in the casino was Baron of Marçay, a shareholder in the Monte Carlo Casino. The opening was celebrated with fireworks and a piano recital by George Enescu, in the presence of Alexandru Davila and Titu Maiorescu. The casino became a major attraction between the wars.

After the communist takeover in the late 1940s, gambling ceased and the casino is now an international conference center.[5]

Franz Joseph and Saint Anne Cliffs

The Franz Joseph Cliffs are located in the Bucegi Mountains near Sinaia, Prahova Valley, Romania. They are situated in close proximity to the Royal Meadow, used often by former Romanian monarchs to host feasts for their most important guests.

They have been named by King Carol I of Romania, after Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. The stairs and railings have also been added during Carol I's rule. From the top of the cliffs, one can get a clear view of Prahova Valley.

Saint Anne's Cliff At its base there is a small clearing. The rock wall had once icons on it, whose traces can still be seen today. The small grotto that exists there was once a shelter for a hermit. The cliff is located at the crossroads between the road that goes at Cota 1400 and the road that goes to Sheepfold Meadow.[6]
