PortAventura World is an entertainment resort in Salou and Vila-seca, Tarragona, on the Costa Daurada in Catalonia, Spain. It was built around the PortAventura Park theme park, which attracts around 3.5 million visitors per year, making it the most visited theme park in Spain and the sixth most visited theme park in Europe. The resort includes a second theme park, Ferrari Land, since 2017 and also includes PortAventura Caribe Aquatic Park, five hotels, a convention centre and a RV park. It is the biggest resort in the south of Europe which attracts around 5 million visitors per year. It has Reus Airport within 15 minutes of it and Barcelona Airport within an hour. There is a train station for PortAventura which has connections to Barcelona and Tarragona.[1]

Roller coaster in Spain. Shambhala: Expedición al Himalaya is a steel hypercoaster roller coaster located at PortAventura Park in Salou and Vilaseca, Spain. Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, it was the tallest and fastest hypercoaster in Europe until Hyperion opened at Energylandia in Poland on 14 July 2018. The height record was beaten in April 2017 by Red Force, which was also opened in PortAventura World's new theme park Ferrari Land, this coaster reaches a height of 112 metres. Shambhala is named and themed after the inaccessible land in the Himalayas: Shambhala. It was announced to the public on 24 October 2011, and opened to the public on 12 May 2012.[2]

Dragon Khan

Roller coaster. Dragon Khan is a steel sit-down roller coaster located in the PortAventura Park theme park in Salou and Vilaseca, Catalonia, Spain. Dragon Khan boasts eight inversions, which was a world record until the opening of the ten-inversion Colossus in Thorpe Park, United Kingdom in 2002.

The ride, built by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), opened on May 2, 1995 and was one of the two roller coasters present upon PortAventura's opening. The track is red with white and pastel blue supports; the trains are green, blue and purple (a third train is run at peak times only).[3]

Hurakan Condor

Amusement ride. Hurakan Condor is a 'giant drop' ride located in PortAventura Park, in the resort PortAventura World, Catalonia, Spain. It was manufactured by Intamin, consists of 5 cars around a central tube which is around 377 feet tall. Riders are four abreast and are brought to a height of 285 feet by a coupler. The car slowly tilts forward as it climbs the last few feet. As the camera flash goes off, the coupler detaches, letting riders freefall at 71.46 miles per hour. The car then slowly drops back into the station. The ride and queues are intensively themed around a Mexican background, in order to fit in with the Mexico area of the park. Depending on which side of the tower the rider boards the ride experience differs greatly. Riders can either sit regularly, sit in tilting seats or ride standing, but without a floor.[4]

Roller coaster in Spain. Furius Baco is a hydraulically launched steel roller coaster located at PortAventura Park in the resort PortAventura World, Salou, Catalonia, Spain. Manufactured by Intamin, the ride opened on June 5, 2007 as the fastest roller coaster in Europe at 83.9 mph, which the ride reaches in 3 seconds, although this record has since been surpassed by Red Force at neighboring Ferrari Land. Since opening, the ride has experienced some technical problems, and as a result has had to shut down for varying periods of time during opening hours.[5]

Roller coaster. Stampida is a racing, wooden roller coaster built by Custom Coasters International at PortAventura Park in the resort PortAventura World, Salou, Catalonia, Spain. It is a very rickety roller coaster with many drops and 2 tunnels. It features two parallel tracks with blue and red cars each one, but then they run separately for a while. Finally, they come parallel again to the end of the ride. It shares a part of its route with a kiddie wooden roller coaster named Tomahawk.[6]
