The Caracol Tower is an architectural construction located in the Spanish town of Benavente.

It is a tower that was part of the Castillo de la Mota de Benavente, one of the few parts that remain standing of the immense and luxurious castle-palace that the Pimentel family owned in this town. In its heyday it was one of the most important and sumptuous palaces in Spain. The extension of its gardens covered a large part of the valley through which the river Órbigo flows, which extends at its feet. There are still preserved many fountains and sculptures belonging to this garden, almost all of them in private hands.

The Plaza Mayor of Benavente is located in the center of the city of Benavente, in the province of Zamora, Spain.

Both the Plaza Mayor and its surroundings, is one of the areas of this city in which are concentrated the realization of most social events, such as the Veguilla, the Toro Enmaromado, the festive beginnings, the fairs of ceramics, peppers, etc.. but also for being an enclave within the environment of qualified historical heritage, forming part of it as BIC by the proximity to the churches of San Juan among others, reasons why it is usually a very busy area.

Also, it is currently considered the commercial engine of Benavente, since in its surroundings are located the busiest pedestrian shopping streets of this city (broken link available in Internet Archive; see the history, the first version and the last one).

Gran Teatro Reina Sofía

The Gran Teatro Reina Sofía is a stage building in the Zamoran town of Benavente dating from 1928 and is the work of the architect Antonio García Sánchez-Blanco. It was commissioned by Manuel Guerra Hidalgo, to replace another Elizabethan and adjacent to it that was known as Teatro del Jardinillo. The scenic space, which was called since its inauguration Gran Teatro, was built on some dependencies of the disentailed Convent of Santo Domingo, which still retains some remains and decorative elements, such as some stucco located in the lobby area, as well as old walls with noble coats of arms located in the back of the scene.

The duchy of Benavente is a Spanish hereditary noble title granted by King Henry IV of Castile on 28 January 1473 in favour of Rodrigo Alonso Pimentel, iv Count of Benavente, and Lord of Villalón, Mayorga, Betanzos, Allariz, Aguiar, Sandiáñez, Milmanda and Sande, and great-grandson of Juan Alfonso Pimentel, a knight of Portuguese origin in the service of the Crown of Castile, to whom King Ferdinand III of Castile granted the County of Benavente.
