Historical landmark in Almuñécar, Spain. Castillo de San Miguel is a castle located in Almuñécar, in the province of Granada, Spain. It is bounded by the remains of the original city walls. The castle sits on a small hill, which is difficult to access. The original fortifications date of 1st century B.C. During the Moorish occupation, the castle was enlarged to include 40 towers and three gates. It has a wide moat and a drawbridge. Parts of the building are topped with battlements of pyramid shape. The keep, which was on the inside, is demolished. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural monument in 1993. There is a small museum within the castle grounds.[1]

Sexi, also known as Ex, was a Phoenician colony at the present-day site of Almuñécar on southeastern Spain's Mediterranean coast.

The Roman name for the place was Sexi Firmum Iulium. Alternative transcriptions of the Phoenician name of the city in Latin include Secks, Seks, Sex, Eks, Seksi and Sexsi.[2]

The Roman aqueduct of Sexi is located in the Spanish municipality of Almuñécar, province of Granada, preserving several sections of it: one in the hamlet of Torrecuevas, another in the town of Almuñécar and two others between Torrecuevas and the city of Almuñécar, in the middle of the tropical tree crops of the fertile plain of Sexi. Its function was to supply water to the city during the High Roman Empire. It is the best preserved Roman aqueduct in Andalusia and has been of Cultural Interest since 1931.
