McCauley Mountain

Summit in New York State. McCauley Mountain is a summit and ski resort in the Town of Webb, Herkimer County, New York. It is located just outside the hamlet of Old Forge, in the south-western area of the Adirondack Mountains.

Opened in 1958, it was the hometown hill of Olympic skier Hank Kashiwa.

The summit of McCauley Mountain is at an altitude of 2,280 feet (690 m). The hill features a 633-foot (193 m) vertical drop, 21 ski trails of between three and 5,000 feet (1,500 m), two T-bar tows, two rope tows, and one double chairlift.[1]

The trail leading up the mountain is a popular hike, likely due to its proximity to tourist towns. The mountain is also home to the Rondaxe Mountain Fire Tower, which contributes to the trail's popularity.[2]

Museum in Old Forge, New York. Goodsell House is a historic home located at Old Forge in Herkimer County, New York. It was built in 1899 and is a 2+1⁄2-story, wood-frame vernacular Queen Anne–style house with a gable ell. The main block is over a limestone foundation. Also on the property is a 2+1⁄2-story carriage house/garage and an ice house. It is operated as a local history museum for the town of Webb.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Town of Webb Historical Association operates the Goodsell Museum as a museum of local history.[3]

Thendara

Hamlet in New York State. Thendara is a hamlet and census-designated place in Herkimer County, New York, United States. Thendara is located in the Adirondack Park, in the southern part of the town of Webb, west of Old Forge on Route 28.

Thendara is a station on the Adirondack Railroad; it is the current terminus of most northbound trains from Utica. It was formerly known as "Fulton Chain", and was the junction of the Fulton Chain Railway with the Mohawk and Malone Railway (the latter now used by the scenic railroad). The New York Central Railroad Adirondack Division Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The Thendara Historic District was listed in 2010.

Thendara was the site of early efforts to settle the town of Webb in 1811, but the effort failed.[4]
