Zittau Mountains Nature Park
Also known as: Naturpark Zittauer Gebirge
Park. The Zittau Mountains Nature Park is a nature park in Germany, created in 2008.
The nature park comprise the German parts of the Lusatian Mountains at the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland and covers an area of 113 square kilometres (44 sq mi) of forests, lakes, meadows and peatlands. Most of the Lusatian Mountains are in the Czech Republic, and these parts forms the Lusatian Mountains Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Lužické hory).[1]
Tierpark Zittau
Zittau Zoo is a seven-hectare zoo in Zittau. The zoo also calls itself Zoo im Dreiländereck. It was founded in 1965 and represents a closed zoo since 1968.
Its origins go back to the beginning of the century to a deer enclosure and a forest bird aviary. The zoo is located in the so-called Weinau Park, which was laid out in the English style from 1876 and is still essentially preserved today.
In addition to the presentation of the native animal world, the zoo has mainly thematic facilities such as a South America facility or also the walk-in facilities Australia facility and fallow deer facility. The animal population consists of about 380 animals in 70 species, for example penguins, kangaroos, llamas, coatis, lynxes and eagle owls.
The zoo, which is also a partner zoo of the Stiftung Artenschutz, has between 50,000 and 60,000 visitors annually. It has been run by an association since 2004.
Also on display will be an exhibit of old farming equipment, a bat exhibit, a mushroom exhibit, and a clay building center.
