Takachiho Shrine
Also known as: 高千穂神社
Shinto shrine in Takachiho, Japan. Takachiho-jinja is a Shinto shrine located in Takachiho, Miyazaki prefecture, Japan. It is dedicated to Takachihosumegami and Jisshyadaimyoujin.[1]

Amanoiwato Shrine
Also known as: 天岩戸神社
Shinto shrine in Takachiho, Japan. Amanoiwato-jinja is a Shinto shrine located in Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. It is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and sits above the gorge containing Ama-no-Iwato, the cave where, according to Japanese legend, the goddess hid after battle with her brother, plunging the world into darkness until lured out by the spirit of merriment Ame-no-Uzume.
The Amano-Iwato cave is an object of worship in festivals and is a rock cave on the other side of the Iwato River from nishihongū. You can see the cave from nishihongū after participating in a Shinto ritual for purification.[2]

Mount Sobo
Also known as: 祖母山
Mountain in Japan. Mount Sobo is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. The 1,756-metre-high mountain lies on the border of Taketa and Bungo-ōno in Ōita Prefecture and Takachiho, Nishiusuki District in Miyazaki Prefecture. It is the highest peak in Miyazaki Prefecture. In Ōita Prefecture only the 1,791 m middle peak of Mount Kujū is higher.
The Sobo Mountain range extends into three prefectures: Ōita, Miyazaki and Kumamoto. Because of the volcanic activity which formed the mountain, huge rocks can be found everywhere around the mountain. There is a great variety of mountain climbing routes, ranging from animal trails to well maintained paths. Courses ae available from relaxed hiking for enjoyment to cliff climbing routes aimed at advanced climbers. Steep rock climbing routes can be seen from all trails in the neighbourhood of the summit. The surroundings of Mount Sobo abound in mineral resources which were mined from the Edo period to the mid-Shōwa period.[3]
