Schloss Plön
Hilltop castle from the 17th century. Plön Castle in Plön is one of the largest castles in the north German state of Schleswig-Holstein and the only one located on a hill. The former Residenz of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Plön was built in the 17th century during the Thirty Years War and has had a colourful history in which it has, for example, been a school for military cadets and also a boarding school.
The castle ended the twentieth century as a possession of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, but they could not fund its renovation and so it had to be sold again. Since January 2002 it has belonged to the Fielmann Akademie Schloss Plön and, after extensive conversion, serves as a training and qualification centre for a branch of optometry. After being inaccessible to the general public for many years when it was a boarding school, its new owners have opened it to a limited extent to visitors.[1]
Princes' House
Also known as: Prinzenhaus
The Princes' House in Plön in the North German state of Schleswig-Holstein is a former royal summer residence in the grounds of the park at Plön Castle. It is the only surviving maison de plaisance in Schleswig-Holstein.
It was given its present name because at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century it was used as a residence and school for the sons of the German emperor, William II. At that time it was enlarged with two extensions. A farm on nearby Princes' Island served the princes as a learning site for agricultural skills.[2]

During its history the building has also served as an orphanage and was modified several times. Today it houses Plön's district museum.[3]
St. John's Church
Also known as: Johanniskirche
Historical landmark in Plön, Germany. St. John's Church in the north German town of Plön was built in 1685 as an independent parish church when Plön's new town, Neustadt, was developed by Duke John Adolphus.
The timber-framed hall church (Saalkirche), with its three-sided polygonal end, was altered in 1861 by the installation of new windows. Further changes were made in 1910, when the interior was changed to the style of Gothic Revival.[4]
