Fort Osterburken was a Roman military camp whose garrison was responsible for securing and monitoring tasks along the so-called "Vorderen Limes" of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is located about 455 meters west of the Limes road on the southern slope of the Kirnau valley in the Hager Flur. The partially still visible and preserved building remains are located in the Baden-Württemberg town of Osterburken in the Federal Republic of Germany, which belongs to the Neckar-Odenwald district. In addition to the fort, which became a double fort through a subsequent extension, especially the partially well datable buildings and valuable finds from the area of the extensive Roman camp village have become known beyond the region. Osterburken is thus one of the most important archaeological reference points on this section of the Limes.
