Bogor Botanical Gardens

Serene, long-standing botanical garden. The Bogor Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden located in Bogor, Indonesia, 60 km south of central Jakarta. It is currently operated by Indonesian Institute of Sciences. The Garden is located in the city center and adjoin the presidential palace compound of Istana Bogor. It covers an area of 87 hectares and contains 13,983 different kinds of trees and plants of various origin. The geographic position of Bogor means it rains almost daily, even in the dry season. This makes the Garden an advantageous location for the cultivation of tropical plants.

Founded in 1817 by the order of the government of the Dutch East Indies, the Garden thrived under the leadership of many renowned botanists including Johannes Elias Teijsmann, Rudolph Herman Christiaan Carel Scheffer, and Melchior Treub. Since its foundation, Bogor Botanical garden has served as a major research center for agriculture and horticulture. It is the oldest botanical garden in Southeast Asia.[1]

Bogor Palace

Historic structure with scenic grounds. The Bogor Palace is one of six Presidential Palaces of Indonesia, it is located in the city of Bogor, West Java. The palace is noted for its distinctive architectural and historical features, as well as the adjoining botanical gardens. Istana Bogor was opened to the public in 1968 to public tour groups, with the permission of the acting President of Indonesia, Suharto. The gardens of the palace covers an area of 284,000 square metres.

During the colonial era the palace became favorite residence of the Governors-General due to Bogor's more adaptable climate. It was also favored by the late President Sukarno and became the official presidential residence until his downfall in 1967. The palace remained mostly unused until February 2015, when the new president Joko Widodo moved the president's office from Merdeka Palace to Bogor Palace.[2]

Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkarta or often referred to simply as Pura Jagatkarta is a Hindu temple of Nusantara located in Ciapus village, Tamansari subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia.

The temple complex is a sacred place of worship, serving as a Pura Kahyangan Jagad, a type of pura located in a mountainous region, for Hindu Dharma devotees in the Greater Jakarta area. It is also considered as a sacred place to honor the hyang (deified ancestral spirits) identified as King Siliwangi of Pakuan Pajajaran kingdom, an ancient Hindu kingdom which once stood in the Parahyangan area.[3]

Batutulis Inscription

The Batutulis inscription is an ancient Sunda Kingdom inscription dated 1533, located at Batutulis village, South Bogor, West Java. Batutulis inscription is located in the ancient site of the capital Pakuan Pajajaran, Batutulis means 'inscribed stone', it is this stone, still in situ, which gave name to the village. The complex of Batutulis measures 17 x 15 metres. Several other inscribed stones from Sunda Kingdom also located in this location. The inscription was written in Old Sundanese language. The Batutulis inscriptions were created in 1533 by king Surawisesa to honor and commemorate his late father, the great king Sri Baduga Maharaja or known as Ratu Haji Pakuan Pajajaran Sri Sang Ratu Dewata. Sri Baduga Maharaja is also known in local tradition as King Siliwangi.[4]

Historical landmark in Bogor, Indonesia. The Kujang Monument is a 25 metres obelisk located in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. It features a Kujang on top and the Bogor city coat of arms on the centre. The Kujang is a traditional weapon of the Sundanese people. The obelisk is located at the intersection of two roads: Pajajaran and Otto Iskandardinata road, near the Bogor Botanical Garden. It was built in 4 May 1982 during the rule of mayor Achmad Sobana.[5]

Church building in Bogor, Indonesia. Bogor Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a historic church building in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bogor in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia.

A church in Buitenzorg (Dutch name for the area) in 1894 served both Protestants and Catholics. The cathedral was built 1905. During the World War II era, it was desecrated in 1945.

Currently it serves as the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Bogor (Dioecesis bogorensis) which was created in 1961 by the bull Quod Christus by the Pope John XXII, follows the Roman or Latin rite and is under the pastoral responsibility of the Bishop Paskalis Bruno Syukur.[6]
