Town in Italy. San Martino d'Agri is a hill town and comune in the province of Potenza, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. It is a town of less than 800 people most of the year, but in August the population swells to around 2,000 when Sammartinesi return for the Festa della Madonna della Rupe, some coming from as far as North America, South America and Australia. San Martino d'Agri is on the peak of a hill at 666 meters above sea level. At one point in the town's history, there was a major mudslide that wiped out most of the town; however, it recovered. Atop the hill stands a medieval castle, which was first owned by the barone. However, after the barone was overthrown, there was an earthquake that destroyed much of the town. The castle was later renovated and divided up into sections for different families' housing. In the late mid-1900s, a section was abandoned and wasn't renovated until 2003. That part, as well as another is currently owned and still being renovated.[2]

Lake Remmo, also known as Laudemio, located at an altitude of 1,525 meters above sea level, is the southernmost lake of glacial origin in Italy: extending for a little more than two hectares, the basin was formed as a result of the barrage formed by the frontal moraine of a large glacier, which in the Quaternary period descended for about four kilometers from the north side of Mount Papa, until it reached the locality of Pétina Chiana.

The lake, located in a basin of the Lucano Val d'Agri Lagonegrese Apennine National Park on the northeastern slopes of Mount Sirino, in the province of Potenza, extends behind Serra Spalla dell'Imperatrice, surrounded by a grove of dense and tall beech and alder (Alnus cordata) trees; it is fed by waters flowing down from the slopes of Sirino-Papa and its surface is covered with grasses, marsh leaves and algae.

The area bordering the lake's body of water consists of dense beech forest, which surrounds it for two-thirds of its perimeter, and a surrounding crown of mountains.
