Zoo in Amersfoort, Netherlands. DierenPark Amersfoort is a 20-hectare zoo located on the West side of Amersfoort, in the province of Utrecht, on the edge of the Birkhoven forest, in the Netherlands.^[1]

Tower in Amersfoort, Netherlands. The Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren is a church tower in Amersfoort. The Late Gothic building is 98.33 metres tall and reaches high above the inner city. It is one of the most eye-catching monuments in town and the third highest church tower in the Netherlands. The nickname of the tower is Lange Jan. The church that belonged to the tower was destroyed by a gunpowder explosion in the 18th century.^[2]

On 25 November 1990 the theatre burned down. There were signs of burglary. The damage was 10 million Dutch guilder. The theatre was rebuilt on the same location, and reopened in 1994.^[3]

Museum in Amersfoort, Netherlands. Museum Flehite is the historical museum of Amersfoort and Eemland in the Netherlands. The museum was founded in 1880 by the "Oudheidkundige Vereniging Flehite". In 1890, the museum moved to the first of the current three-part building on the Breestraat. Since 1976, the museum has been managed by a separate organization.

The museum was closed in 2007 due to asbestos contamination and a large modernization, but the museum reopened in May 2009.^[5]

The collection contains small objects, like uniforms, firearms, silver, paintings, scale models, etc. and larger objects, like vehicles, armoured cars, tanks and related equipment, that were or still are in use with the cavalry of the Royal Dutch Army. The museum covers over 425 years of history, and shows the visitor the evolution of cavalry from horseback to the modern tank.^[8]

The western part of the municipality lies on the slopes of the Utrecht Hill Ridge and is largely covered by forest and heathlands. The eastern parts lie in the Gelderse Vallei and are mostly agricultural.

Former Amersfoort concentration camp lies just within the northern municipal border with Amersfoort.^[10]
