The Big Chair
Tourist attraction in Thomasville, North Carolina. The Big Chair is a landmark located in Thomasville, North Carolina. It is a large-scale replica of a Duncan Phyfe armchair built in 1950 by Thomasville Furniture Industries. Before the current chair was built, a predecessor was built in September 1922. The original chair was 13 feet 6 inches tall. The old chair was unfortunately made of pine instead of lasting material, which resulted in it being worn down over time. It was torn down in 1936, and the new chair did not occupy the spot until 1950. The current chair is 30 feet tall and the seat is 10 feet 6 inches wide, while being made from steel and concrete. The base is sculpted from Indiana limestone. In 1960, the chair received attention as Lyndon B. Johnson stood on the chair to wave to locals as he campaigned for the 1960 United States presidential election, in which he was the winning vice-presidential candidate.[1]

Smith Clinic
Historical landmark in Thomasville, North Carolina. Smith Clinic is a historic office building located at Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina. It was built in 1939, and is a small one-story, Art Deco style brick building. The building measures approximately 34 feet wide and 104 feet deep. It features a projecting entrance bay of case concrete with a stepped parapet over the entrance. For more than 35 years after its construction, the building housed medical offices.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.[2]

Branch library. The Thomasville Public Library is located in Thomasville, North Carolina, United States. It is the second largest branch of the Davidson County Public Library system. Since its inception in October, 1928, the library has grown from one room in the corner of a Thomasville school housing a collection of 200 books to a 19,000 sq ft independent structure housing more than 70,000 books as well as magazines and journals, non-print materials, public access computers, and meeting rooms that are generally free for public use.[3]

Museum in Thomasville, North Carolina. The Mitchell House Museum was founded in 1982 as a project of the Mills Home Alumni Association. The museum is located in Thomasville, NC on the Mills Home Campus, the original campus of the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina. It occupies the oldest building on the Mills Home Campus.[4]
Church Street School
School in Thomasville, North Carolina. Church Street School is a historic school building for African-American students located at Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina. It was built in 1935–1937, and is a two-story, "T"-shaped, Colonial Revival style brick building. A two-story auditorium projects from the rear of the main building. Two-story wings built in 1951 flank the original building. A gymnasium was built the same year. Some funding for school construction was provided by the Public Works Administration.

The district encompasses 33 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Thomasville. They were built between about 1861 and 1957, and include notable examples of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival style architecture. Notable buildings include the Heidelberg Church, St Paul's Episcopal Church, White House, Strickland-Long House, Morris-Harris House, and Leon A. Kress House.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.[7]
