Botanical garden in Newton, Iowa. The Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is a 6-acre arboretum and botanical gardens located within Agnes Patterson Park, in Newton, Iowa.
The gardens include demonstration beds including three annual beds, a mixed perennial bed, an ornamental grass bed, a rose bed, two woody shrub beds, a shade garden, a tulip bed, a rose bed, a butterfly garden, a water garden, and a native prairie.[1]

Courthouse. The Jasper County Courthouse is located in Newton, Iowa, United States, and was built from 1909 to 1911. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. In 2014 it was included as a contributing property in the Newton Downtown Historic District.[2]

St. Stephen's Episcopal Church
Episcopal church in Newton, Iowa. St. Stephen's Episcopal Church is an historic Carpenter Gothic style Episcopal Church church building located in Newton, Iowa, United States. Completed in 1881, it was built by the contractor David S. Strover and master carpenter Joe Stevens. On September 22, 1977, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It serves a parish church in the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa.[3]

August H. Bergman House
Building. The August H. Bergman House is a historic building located in Newton, Iowa, United States. Bergman was an investor in several washing machine companies, including Maytag. He was also a member of the Iowa Senate between 1922 and 1930. While there he was responsible for establishing the gasoline tax to support upgrading and paving the roads in the state. This is the only known example of a Mission Revival house designed by the prominent Des Moines architectural firm of Proudfoot & Bird. It was built by R. P. Rasmussen for $17,000 in 1909. It features a hipped red tile roof, stucco walls, stone trim, belvedere, Mission-shaped dormers, broad eaves, and a full-length single-story porch with a pergola.
The house was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. In 2020, it was included as a contributing property in the First Avenue East Historic District.[4]

Thomas Arthur House
The Thomas Arthur House is a historic residence located in Newton, Iowa, United States. Arthur was a land agent who held two offices in Jasper County government. He was also one of the incorporators for St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton, was involved in acquiring the property for the church, and may have donated it. He moved his family to Oakland, California about 1876, and the house was sold to the Rev. Joseph Evans Ryan, the Rector for St. Stephan's. Built in 1865, the painted brick Late Gothic Revival house is the only elaborate house in that style in the city, and only one of a few such houses in central Iowa. Its distinguishing feature is a three-story, round tower with a flared, conical roof. The only access to the second floor is by way of the tower. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.[5]
