Famed mountain with the Weeping Rock. Mount Spil, the ancient Mount Sipylus, is a mountain rich in legends and history in Manisa Province, Turkey, in what used to be the heartland of the Lydians and what is now Turkey's Aegean Region.

Its summit towers over the modern city of Manisa as well as over the road between İzmir and Manisa. The contiguous mass of Mount Yamanlar, also overlooking the Gulf of İzmir, has often been considered an extension of the Mount Sipylus massif, with which it shares much history, although it is actually an extinct volcano and a distinct geographical formation.[3]

Şehzadeler is a new intracity district and second level municipality in Manisa Province, Turkey. According to Law act no 6360, all Turkish provinces with a population more than 750000, were declared metropolitan municipality. The law also created new districts within the capital city which have second level municipalities in addition the metropolitan municipality. Şehzadeler is one of them.

Thus after 2014 Manisa central district was split into two. A part was named Şehzadeler and the name Manisa was reserved for the metropolitan municipality. (Şehzadeler means "princes" referring to those princes who served as sanjak rulers in Manisa during the Ottoman Empire period)[5]

Yunusemre is a planned district and second level municipality in Manisa Province, Turkey. According to Law act no 6360, all Turkish provinces with a population more than 750,000, will be metropolitan municipalities and the districts within the metropolitan municipalities will be second level municipalities. The law also creates new districts within the provinces in addition to present districts. These changes will be effective by the local elections in 2014.

After 2014, what is now Manisa central district will be split into two. A part will be named Yunusemre and the name Manisa will be reserved for the metropolitan municipality. (Yunus Emre was a Turkish poet of the 13th and 14th centuries.)[6]

Public university in Turkey. Manisa Celal Bayar University or is a public research university located in Manisa, Turkey. CBU traces its root back to 1959 as an independent sports and teachers' college in Manisa. The main campus is in Muradiye district of Manisa. The university is composed of 14 colleges, 3 schools, and 15 vocational schools. As of 2017 university offers over 70 different undergraduate and over 90 graduate programs. MCBU is the only school in the country to offer tobacco technology engineering program. Physical Education and Sports College is also one of oldest in Turkey that began offering sports science and physical education programs.

It is one of the largest universities in Aegean Region with more than 55,000 student body and 1,156 faculty members. As of Fall 2017 there are 652 international students.[7]
