J.C. Penney House
Museum. The J. C. Penney House in Kemmerer, Wyoming was the home of James Cash Penney, the founder of the J. C. Penney department stores, during the 1904-1909 period that he developed his formula for a successful dry goods store. Penney and wife moved to Kemmerer in 1902 and lived in the garret of a small house. With a child, it was too small, and Penney bought this two-story house in 1904. It was small, too: about 25 feet wide and sloping down to the back, going about 30 feet deep.
During this period he was operating the "mother store" of the future J.C. Penney empire.
It is now operated as a house museum at least during the summer.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and is a contributing property to the J. C. Penney Historic District, a National Historic Landmark.[1]

Fossil Butte National Monument
Hiking destination plus geology talks. Fossil Butte National Monument is a United States National Monument managed by the National Park Service, located 15 miles west of Kemmerer, Wyoming, United States. It centers on an assemblage of Eocene Epoch animal and plant fossils associated with Fossil Lake—the smallest lake of the three great lakes which were then present in what are now Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. The other two lakes were Lake Gosiute and Lake Uinta. Fossil Butte National Monument was established as a national monument on October 23, 1972.
Fossil Butte National Monument preserves the best paleontological record of Cenozoic aquatic communities in North America and possibly the world, within the 50-million-year-old Green River Formation — the ancient lake bed. Fossils preserved include fish, alligators, bats, turtles, dog-sized horses, insects, and many other species of plants and animals — suggest that the region was a low, subtropical, freshwater basin when the sediments accumulated, over about a 2 million-year period.[2]

The courthouse's architecture is an unusual mixture of the Beaux-Arts and Classical Revival styles. Built in 1925, it was designed by the Salt Lake City architectural company of Headlund & Watkins. Located at the intersection of Sage Avenue and Garnet Street, the courthouse includes a high dome and classical façade, supported by large brick walls.[4]
