Rogue River Ranch
Museum in Curry County, Oregon. The Rogue River Ranch is a pioneer farm complex in Curry County in southwest Oregon, United States. The ranch is located on the north shore of the Rogue River just outside the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The original ranch buildings were constructed by George Billings. Later, the ranch was sold to Stanley Anderson, who increased the size of the property and built additional farm buildings. The Bureau of Land Management bought the ranch in 1970. Today, the main ranch house is a museum. The Bureau of Land Management also maintains a campground on the property. The Rogue River Ranch is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]
Indian Mary Park
Park in Josephine County, Oregon. Indian Mary Park is part of the Josephine County Parks system in the U.S. state of Oregon. Bordering the Rogue River, the 61-acre park is along Merlin–Galice Road, about 16 miles northwest of the city of Grants Pass. The heavily used park is the county's most popular in summer.
The park was named for Mary Peters, who was known as "Indian Mary".
Amenities include a boat ramp, a public pay telephone, a disc golf course, and three restrooms, including two with showers. Campsites include places for tents and sites with utility hook-ups for travel trailers, as well as two five-person yurts provided with furniture, electricity, lighting, and heat. The park's entrance station has ice, firewood, and other items, and provides information. Registered campers have access to the park's dump station. The boat ramp, about 250 yards (230 m) downstream of an older one that entered relatively swift water and was not always usable, opened in August 2010.
Sites may be reserved two days to nine months in advance. The county publishes a fee schedule for various kinds of camping and other uses of the park. Non-campers are generally charged a $2 day-use fee for parking. Annual passes are available, and people entering the park on foot, by bicycle, or on a horse do not have to pay the parking fee.[2]
Whisky Creek Cabin
The Whisky Creek Cabin is a rustic log cabin located in southwest Oregon along the section of the Rogue River that is designated as a National Wild and Scenic River. It is the oldest remaining mining cabin in the Rogue River canyon. The Bureau of Land Management purchased the cabin and surrounding property in 1973. The Whisky Creek Cabin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.[3]
Rand Ranger Station
Building in Josephine County, Oregon. The Rand Ranger Station is a Bureau of Land Management compound consisting of eight historic buildings located in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in southwest Oregon. It was built by the United States Forest Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps as a district ranger station for the Galice Ranger District. The ranger station property was transferred to the Bureau of Land Management in 1970. Today, the ranger station office serves as a visitor center. The Rand Ranger Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[4]
Zane Grey Cabin
The Zane Grey Cabin near Rogue River in Oregon is a cabin built in 1926 by Zane Grey, the master author of the American West. Grey used it as a frequent retreat until 1935.
It is located in Curry County, Oregon on the north bank of the lower Rogue River near Galice in Josephine County, Oregon.
The National Register announcement of listing for the Zane Grey Cabin incorrectly states that it is located in Josephine County. The cabin is in fact in Curry County.
Zane Grey also had a cabin under the Mogollon Rim near Payson, Arizona. There is a replica of that cabin at the Rim Country Museum.[5]
