Snake Temple

Also known as: Tokong Ular

Ornate religious site filled with vipers. The Snake Temple is a Chinese temple situated in Bayan Lepas, Southwest Penang Island District, Penang, Malaysia. It was built in 1805 for Master Qingshui or Chor Soo Kong, a deified Buddhist monk. Devotees from as far away as Singapore, Taiwan and China come to pray in the temple on the monk's birthday.

The temple also featured during the 8th leg of The Amazing Race 16 and become a location in Tan Twan Eng's novel "The Gift of Rain" (book 1, chapter 4).[1]

Town in the Penang Island, Malaysia. Teluk Kumbar is a town within the city of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. It is located within the Southwest Penang Island District, at the southern coast of Penang Island between Bayan Lepas to the east and Gertak Sanggul to the west.[2]

Landmark bridge with skyline views. The Penang Bridge is a 13.5-kilometre dual carriageway toll bridge and controlled-access highway in the state of Penang, Malaysia. The bridge connects Perai on the mainland side of the state with Gelugor on the island, crossing the Penang Strait. The bridge was the first and, until 2014, the only road connection between the peninsula and the island. The bridge is the second-longest bridge in Malaysia and the fifth-longest in Southeast Asia by total length, with a length over water of 8.4 kilometres.

The bridge was inaugurated on 14 September 1985. The current concession holder and maintainer of the bridge is PLUS Expressways. Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd was the concession holder before it was merged with the current concessionaire.[3]

Teluk Tempoyak is a coastal village within the city of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. It is located within the Southwest Penang Island District, near the southeastern tip of Penang Island. The village lies just south of Batu Maung and faces the Penang Strait to the east.[4]

Batu Maung is a residential neighbourhood in the Malaysian state of Penang. It is located within the Southwest Penang Island District, near the southeastern tip of Penang Island, and adjacent to the town of Bayan Lepas and the Penang International Airport. Batu Maung is home to the island terminus of the Second Penang Bridge and the southern end of the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. It is also surrounded by fishing villages such as Permatang Damar Laut and Teluk Tempoyak.

Formerly an agricultural village, the development of Batu Maung into a residential neighbourhood began in the late 20th century. Part of the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone actually lies within the township, which also houses the headquarters of WorldFish Center and a deepwater fishing port.[5]
