Pokagon State Park

Recreational area on woodlands and lakes. Pokagon State Park is an Indiana state park in the northeastern part of the state, near the village of Fremont and 5 miles north of Angola. It was named for the 19th-century Potawatomi chief, Leopold Pokagon, and his widely known son, Simon Pokagon, at Richard Lieber's suggestion. The 1,260-acre park has an inn, camping facilities, and a staff of full-time naturalists. Pokagon receives nearly 640,000 visitors annually.[1]

County government office in Angola, Indiana. Steuben County Jail is a historic jail located at Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. It was built in 1877, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, brick and concrete building with Second Empire style design elements. It consists of an irregular main section with a rectangular prison wing at the rear. A porch was enclosed in 1961 and wing added in 1971. The main section is topped by a slate mansard roof and has an elaborate tower with a pyramidal roof and elaborate cupola.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.[2]

Courthouse. Steuben County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. It was built in 1867–1868, and is a two-story, rectangular, brick building with Greek Revival, Italianate, and Romanesque Revival style design influences. It features a gable roof with bracketed eaves and topped by an octagonal domed cupola with a square base and captain's walk.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.[3]

Angola Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. The district encompasses 49 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 2 contributing objects in the central business district of Shelbyville. It developed between about 1861 and the 1960, and includes notable examples of Italianate, Romanesque Revival, Beaux-Arts, Classical Revival, Late Gothic Revival, and Art Deco style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed Steuben County Courthouse and Steuben County Jail. Other notable buildings include the Angola City Hall, Angola Police and Fire Department Building, First Congregational United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church of Angola, Patterson Block, Jackson Block, Croxton Opera House, Angola Masonic Building, Armory Building, and First National Bank.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.[4]
