Lenoir Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina. The district includes 41 contributing buildings and 2 contributing objects in the central business district of Lenoir. It includes commercial, governmental, and institutional buildings in a variety of popular architectural styles including Art Deco, Art Moderne, Classical Revival and Tudor Revival. Notable contributing resources include the Center Theater, O. P. Lutz Furniture Company and Lutz Hosiery Mill, Dayvault's Drug Store, Caldwell County Agricultural Building, Courtney Warehouse, Masonic Hall, Miller Building, Confederate Monument, Belk's Department Store, Lenoir Building, J. C. Penney Department Store, Fidelity Building, and U. S. Post Office. Located in the district is the separately listed Caldwell County Courthouse.

The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007, with a boundary increase in 2013.[1]

Edgar Allan Poe House

The Edgar Allan Poe House is a historic home located at Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina USA.

The home was built in 1905, and is a two-story Dutch Colonial Revival style house with a gambrel roof and wraparound porch. It was built by a businessman named Edgar Allan Poe, not the famous writer. Lenoir's Poe was a prominent citizen, a builder and an early mayor of Lenoir, which was founded in 1841. It was during an industrial boom of the 1890s that Poe, a native of Dallas, N.C. came to Lenoir in 1893. On Oct. 28, 1897, Poe married Eugenia Maude Miller, who was from a well-known family in Caldwell County. The Poes' first house was on Scruggs Street. In 1905, two years after their second child was born, the Poes bought a half acre on Main Street and began construction of their second home. The house remained in the ownership of the Poe family until August 1999. The home was restored by Joel Kincaid.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.[3]

Lenoir Grammar School, also known as East Harper School, is a historic elementary school building located at Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina. It was built in 1927, and is a two-story, five bay, Classical Revival-style brick school. Additions were made in 1951-1952 and 1958. The school was closed after a fire in 1987, and renovated into apartments in the 1990s.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.[4]

Green Park Historic District is a national historic district located at Blowing Rock, Caldwell County and Watauga County, North Carolina. The district includes 46 contributing buildings, 3 contributing sites, and 2 contributing structures associated with a residential summer resort in the town of Blowing Rock. It includes buildings largely built in the 1920s, in a variety of popular architectural styles including Bungalow / American Craftsman, Colonial Revival and Queen Anne. Notable contributing resources include the McDowell Cottage, Mt. Bethel Reformed Church, Blowing Rock Reception Center/Gift Shop, Robert A. Dunn Cottage, Gideon's Ridge, the James Ross Cannon House, the David Ovens Cottage, Blowing Rock, and the Blowing Rock Country Club Golf Course. Located in the district and separately listed is the Green Park Inn.

The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.[5]
