Boggsville

Boggsville is a former settlement in Bent County, Colorado, USA near the Purgatoire River about 3 miles above the Purgatoire's confluence with the Arkansas River. It was established in 1866. The surviving structures are among the earliest examples of Territorial architecture in Colorado. Boggsville was the last home of frontiersman Kit Carson before his death in 1868 at Fort Lyon. The U.S. Post Office at Las Animas now serves Boggsville postal addresses.

Boggville lies along Highway 101 about 2 miles south of Las Animas.[1]

Cemetery. Fort Lyon National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located near the city of Las Animas in Bent County, Colorado. It encompasses 51.9 acres and as of 2014 had 2,556 interments. It is administered by the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver County, Colorado.[2]

Bent County Courthouse and Jail

Courthouse. The Bent County Courthouse and Jail, of Bent County, Colorado, at 725 Carson Ave. in Las Animas, was built in 1887. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976; the listing included two contributing buildings.

The courthouse building was built and furnished for a total of $58,429, during 1886–1889. Its architecture is described positively in its NRHP nomination.

The NRHP listing includes also the 1902 Bent County Jail, a 30-by-40-foot (9.1 m × 12.2 m) two-story brick building, and a brick garage and another brick extension building.[3]

Las Animas Post Office

The Las Animas Post Office is a historic Modern Movement-style building in Las Animas, Colorado that was built during 1937–38. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

It is a 60-by-60-foot (18 m × 18 m) building. It was unusual for New Deal-era construction in Colorado as it was built as "a direct relief project of the Treasury Department", rather than through the Works Progress Administration or another New Deal construction agency. It was the first Federal building in Las Animas and has served continuously as its post office.[4]
