Courthouse. The former Vance County Courthouse is a historic courthouse building located at Henderson, Vance County, North Carolina. It was originally built in 1884, and extensively remodeled in 1908 by Milburn, Heister & Company in the Neoclassical style. It is a two-story, tan brick, cross-plan building with a monumental front portico supported by brick columns.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located in the Henderson Central Business Historic District.[1]

Mistletoe Villa

The Hughes-Young House, most commonly known as Mistletoe Villa, is a historic house in Henderson, North Carolina. The house is often cited for its ornate Victorian detail and architectural elements. The first house on the site was built for William H. Hughes and completed in 1855. From 1883 to 1885 the house was significantly redesigned and overbuilt on the previous foundation for Ike J. Young, Civil War Colonel and four-term mayor of Henderson. The design of the current house is attributed to the famed architect Samuel Sloan but that fact has not been officially documented.[2]

Zollicoffer's Law Office is a historic office building located at Henderson, Vance County, North Carolina. It was built in 1887, and is a two-story, two bay by two bay, brick building with Italianate style design elements. It is associated with A.C. Zollicoffer, who was prominent in local and regional legal, political, and business circles.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It is located in the Henderson Central Business Historic District.[3]

Fire station in Henderson, North Carolina. Henderson Fire Station and Municipal Building is a historic fire station and city hall located at Henderson, Vance County, North Carolina. The fire station was built in 1908, and is a two-story, red brick eclectic building with a seven-flight stair clock tower. The city hall section was added in 1928, and is a one-story, "L"-shaped brick structure.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It is located in the Henderson Central Business Historic District.[4]

Museum in Henderson. Library and Laboratory Building-Henderson Institute is a historic school building located at Henderson, Vance County, North Carolina. It was built in 1928, and is a plain, two-story brick building with Colonial Revival style design elements. It is the only surviving reminder of the Henderson Institute that was established in the town of Henderson in Vance County in 1887. The Henderson Institute was established by the Freedmen's Mission Board of the United Presbyterian Church of North America to provide secondary education for African-Americans. The building houses the Henderson Institute Historical Museum.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.[5]

West End School is a historic school building located at Henderson, Vance County, North Carolina. It was built in 1922, and is a two-story, 10 bay wide, red brick school. An addition was built about 1960, and is connected to the main school building by a 1 1/2-story hyphen. In 2003 the building was converted into 11 apartment units for the elderly.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.[7]

It encompasses 91 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the central business district of Henderson. The district developed between about 1881 and 1937 and includes notable examples of Romanesque Revival and Classical Revival architecture styles. Located in the district are the separately listed Henderson Fire Station and Municipal Building, Vance County Courthouse, and Zollicoffer's Law Office. Other notable buildings include the First National Bank, Davis Department Store, P. H. Rose Building, Gaston Railroad Depot, Pogue's Tobacco Works, J, A. Kelly Tobacco Prizehouse, H. Leslie Perry Public Library, United States Post Office designed by the Office of the Supervising Architect under James Knox Taylor, O'Neil Building, First United Methodist Church, Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, and First Presbyterian Church.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.[8]
